Recycling / Separation
On average, each Portuguese citizen produces 1.4kg of domestic waste per day. Compared to a European?
Recycling saves resources, fights climatic changes, reduces pollution, limits soil occupation for garbage dumps, creates employment and contributes to a sustainable development model and a better environment. For each ton of recycled glass, we save 1200kg of raw-material and 1300kg of fuel. For each ton of recycled paper, we avoid cutting down 14 trees, wasting 50000 litres of water and 2 barrels of petrol. So considering this, recycle and separate your waste correctly: Plastic / Metal Deposit – cans, aerosols, tints, aluminium trays, bottles, jars, plastic boxes and bags, clean polystyrene. Do not deposit – plastic packages with grease or toxic residue, cutlery, pots and pans, tools, electrical appliances, any type of batteries. Paper / Carton Deposit – cardboard boxes, cardboard boxes for liquids (milk or juice cartons) paper bags and wrapping. Do not deposit – paper packages with grease, napkins, nappies, metallic or plasticised paper, and packages containing toxic products. Glass Deposit – bottles, jars and pots. Do not deposit – lids, caps, kitchen ware (plates, etc.) mirrors, window glass, light bulbs, cosmetics, medical glass. Don’t forget before separation, you should: . Empty and wash thoroughly used packages. . Crush packages to save space. . Remove lids, caps, labels, staples and sticky-tape. |
